Oklahoma CTE Social Media - Your One Stop Shop!
Have you seen the new CareerTech Social Media page?
It is our attempt to put together the Facebook groups, Twitter accounts, YouTube streams and more of the CareerTech System.
On the page you will find links to social medial for CareerTech, our student organizations, technology centers and more. All in one convenient place!
Check it out. Maybe there are some accounts that you would like to follow that you did not know about? Maybe we did not include one of your accounts that you feel should be included, let us know. We hope that the new page will become the one stop shop for all things Oklahoma CTE related!
We also hope that the new page will serve as an example to others who are doing social media and that they will develop a webpage that encompasses all of their social media in a one-stop shop so that people can get connected with them.
Happy connecting!!

Going Paperless
This morning I attended a presentation from Green Country Technology Center and their nursing instructors.
GCTC is working to transition to a paperless classroom where students have access to their instructional materials in a 24 hour setting. Even during the snowstorm of last week, students has access to lectures, notes and text books. They also have access to learning on 3D models of organs like the heart and brain, that before would be just pictures in an 11lb book.
They also talked about the many opportunities avaliable to educators through YouTube, apps and other resources that they have found. They are working with CIMC to develop online curriculum and they are excited about teaching while their students are excited about learning.
What ways are you bringing technology into the classroom?

CareerTech on YouTube
If you are needing to keep up with CareerTech YouTube content, we have several channels to share with you from our technology centers. You can add their feeds to your favorite RSS reader and keep up to date with what is happening across Oklahoma in CTE.
My favorites are Francis Tuttle Technology Center, Metro Technology Center and Tulsa Technology Center. They have taken the standard YouTube skin and have branded it to go with their marketing efforts. They are very clean and professional looking, with just a little something to make them different.
Here are the ones that I have found.
Oklahoma Horizons
Autry Technology Center
Canadian Valley Technology Center
Francis Tuttle Technology Center
Great Plains Technology Center
Meridian Technology Center
Metro Technology Center
Northwest Technology Center
Tri County Technology Center
Tri County Technology Center II
Tri County Technology Center III
Tulsa Technology Center
Did we miss anyone? Let us know in the comments.

Summer Camp Video's
Looking for great examples of how to use social media?
Fans of the Autry Technology Center Facebook page received a link with their Autry Teen Tour Video.
How are you showing off the accomplishments and FUN that your students had this summer?

Promoting Camp
How are you promoting your Summer Camp?
Last week I emailed out to our coordinators a link from Caddo Kiowa Technology Center that showed how they are using Picaso Web albums, arming their camp counselors with digital cameras and are snapping over 100 pictures a day.
Gail indicated that their intent was to get around the "I Don't Knows?"
A link to the album is sent to the parents and counselors of the students. Now, when a parent ask their student what they did at camp during the evening meal, and the student says "I don't know," the parent can ask them about the purple rocket with orange stars that they built and launched.
The parent gets to see their kid shooting that rocket, the smiles on their faces, watch them prepare their egg drop or any number of fun, cool and educational things that their child is doing during the summer.
I know a few more technology centers are working with their marketing departments and are implementing this during their summer camps, what do you think?
Want to take it a step further? Watch a video about the Summer Wonder Camp of the Stillwater Childrens Museum. Wouldn't this make a nice intro on your website?

A Brave New World Wide Web
Viewed a well done video by David Truss shared via the Dangerously Irrelevant Blog that does a great job showing the transformation and tools of a instructor in the 21st Century and why these tools should be used in the classroom.

Tech Prep & You Tube
In a recent post from the Tech Prep Blog, a You Tube link to Tulsa Tech's Second Life Video was included. Second Life is a internet based virtual world where people can interact from all over the world. Higher Education institutions, including the University of Florida, Princeton, and Rice University have chosen to develop real estate for educational purposes within this environment.
(Wikipedia entry for Second Life)
Tulsa Tech has chosen to build a Second Life campus and made a video showcasing their efforts. The Tech Prep Blog contained a post of the video with the intent of showing creative thinking and innovation in the recruitment of students to CTE. It was not our intent to offend anyone with the showing of the video.
It was brought to our attention that the "Related Videos" section of You Tube contained a video that could be viewed as inappropriate. If you came across the video, we apologize. That was not the intended video we were sharing.
Please understand that the content of some of the features of You Tube is out of the control of the user. The link to the video sent was intended to share the good things that Tulsa Tech had to offer using Web 2.0 technologies. We hope to continue using Web 2.0 technologies, including You Tube, for educational purposes and for elevating CTE and student performance in Oklahoma.
