High School Z

Over the past several months I have had the privilege to lead multiple teams in travels to numerous schools across Oklahoma. I can't wait to total up the miles since I have started and see how far I have gone. I feel like I might be close to reaching 24,901 miles, or the distance around the earth!

One thing that has remained consistent is that at each visit our team has made, whether visiting a middle school, junior high, high school, technology center or college, is that we are able to find at least one thing that should be shared as a best practice with the rest of the educators out there.

Allow me to introduce you to the High School Z label in the Oklahoma CTE Blog. Here I will gather thoughts on schools and highlight some of the neat things going on in #OklaEd. I will not name the schools, but those that attend may figure it out. All credit goes to the schools but I do not want to "call" anyone out or start a "that was our idea first" argument.

So here it is, if I was an administrator, the ideas, concepts and applications of educational practices that stick out that I would further explore and possibly implement at High School Z

Renewed Commitment

Wow, looking back since my first blog post on Jan 9, 2007 I have shared a lot of infomration with you, my readers.

Unfortunately 2015 was not a good blogging year and even though I have posted pretty regulaly I only made three attempts! Not good.

For 2016 I am going to renew my commitment to blogging and sharing with you. A lot has changed but one thing I will continue to try to do is provide you with new, fresh and relevant information about career and technology education. There is a lot of great things happening in #OklaEd and beyond and I am excited to share with you.

I hope you had a great 2015, that you have an even better 2016 and that you will come back to the blog regularly and learn with me.

Women’s Equality Day - August 26

Women's Equality Day is a day proclaimed each year by the United States President to commemorate the granting of the vote to women throughout the country. Women in the United States were granted the right to vote on August 26, 1920, when the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution was certified as law. The amendment was first introduced many years earlier in 1878. Every president has published a proclamation for Women's Equality Day since 1972, the year after legislation was first introduced in Congress by Bella Abzug. Non-Traditional Fields

Non-Traditional Fields - The term 'non-traditional fields' means occupations or fields of work, including careers in computer science, technology, and other current and emerging high skill occupations, for which individuals from one gender comprise less than 25 percent of the individuals from one gender comprises less than 25 percent of the individuals employed in each occupation or field of work. - Carl Perkins Career and Technical Education Act of 2006

This blog has covered a variety of topics and those topics continue to expand as my experiences change. Recently to those experiences I have added the opportunity to be involved in the promotion of non-traditional fields in career and technical education as defined by the Carl Perkins legislation.

As such I am adding a new label, Non-Traditional Fields, and will start providing resources, thoughts and sharing opportunities under this new area. I hope that some of them you will find useful.

In addition to these postings we now have made available a new page on our website where some of the resources will be shared as well.
