Carl Perkins/Programs of Study Explanation

This afternoon the POS Workgroup met with the Chairs of the POS Sub-workgroups to discuss and explain the Carl Perkins legislation and the role of the chair in working with each of the 10 componets of a POS.

The meeting included an overview of the Carl Perkins legislation, Programs of Study and the initial work being completed by Tech Prep. It also included a discussion about the agency and its work with the National Research Center for Career and Technical Education and the National POS Institute.

It was a good meeting and much was accomplished. Next up for the Workgroup - Partnerships.

Personal Learning Networks

Yesterday I had the opportunity to speak at the BMITE New Teacher Academy Spring Follow-up meeting.

I enjoy the opportunity to share about blogging, Twitter, RSS feeds and the other tools that I use to sort through all the information that is avaliable on the web. I had a great time talking about Personal Learning Networks and how I use them to provide the professional development I need right at my desktop.

When thinking about the presentation I decided to throw everyone for a loop and just presented off the smart board. It was fun not using a Power Point presentation and just demonstrating what it is I do, the tools I use and showing them the possibilities with a PLN.

I received some great feedback from the participants and look forward to my next opportunity in presenting about the technologies around us.

National Programs of Study Institute

This morning we were informed that Oklahoma is one of the states to receive a grant from the National Research Center for Career and Technical Education (NRCCTE) and we will be participating in the National Programs of Study Institute.

This grant will give our team the opportunity to work with NRCCTE consultants in the further development of the POS for Oklahoma. A total of six team members will attend six sessions over six months. One session will be held at the NRCCTE headquarters, a session in conjunction with the ACTE National Policy Seminar, a session in conjunction with the National Career Cluster Institute and three sessions will be held in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

Oklahoma will create an action plan in late July that will address implementation barriers to the POS and team members will participate while participating in Oklahoma's Programs of Study Workgroup.

Well, it is official. We have changed the name of the Blog from Oklahoma Tech Prep to Oklahoma CTE

Though the name is new we will still provide you with great information about Tech Prep, the Cooperative Alliances, Enrollment Management and all the other things that you have come to expect.

We will also be adding more information on Programs of Study and CTE related information that we hope you can use.

Thank you for being a loyal supporter of CareerTech and joining the conversation.

(Those who subscribe via the email should not notice any change. Those who have subscribed via RSS will need to update their feeds.)

New Name for an Old Blog?

If you did not know, Tech Prep will cease to exist as an initiative in Oklahoma at the end of this fiscal year. Fortunately we are able to continue this year and are excited that we are still able to improve CTE in Oklahoma through continuing our work.

As such, this Blog will continue but will need a new name.

I have thought about OklahomaCTE, OkCTE, OklaCTE, CTEPerspectives

What do you think would be a good name for this Blog? Respond in the comments section.

This is going to be another great year for CareerTech education and I hope to share with you some of the great and exciting things that we learn and that they will somehow make a difference to a student.

One of the new things that we will be posting a lot about is the Programs of Study. We will be spending the next year working on the Programs of Study and designing how they will look for Oklahoma. Of course I will be sharing what I discover with you here, and hope that you will add your comments so we can push Oklahoma forward.

I have enjoyed sharing with you via this Blog since 2007 and continue to enjoy sharing. I hope you enjoy it to.
